It's been said The Ivy Hour origins trace back to the 1906 and the private garden terrace of Caroline Rhodes, a former fashion publicist turned interior curator, who stepped away from the industry at 52 to reclaim her pace. Nestled along the coastline in New England, her home—Stonebridge Cottage—was known for its stone lined paths, aged brick, winding ivy, and the ritual she observed each evening at 5:00 sharp: a simple hour of stillness.

The Ivy Hour was born not in a boardroom or brainstorm—but in the soft in-between moments of a life lived with quiet intention. No phones. No obligations. Just candlelight, soft music, a linen-wrapped journal, and her signature mug of creamed coffee in the winter and her lemon herbal spritz in the summer.

What began as personal sanctuary soon became a whispered ritual among her close circle—authors, designers, art dealers, and thinkers—who would stop in to see her and always ask: “Are we in time for The Ivy Hour?”

Word spread, and before long, The Ivy Hour had evolved into more than a pause—it became a philosophy. One that suggested true luxury wasn’t found in things, but in time well held, moments well kept, and presence well practiced. Caroline understood "the art of the elegant pause."

It's been told that this curated line was originally designed by Charlotte McKeone, an avid golfer, lover of nature and niece of The Ivy Hour founder, Caroline Rhodes. It features our signature black journal, tailored golf hat, and select quiet-life essentials — and is a study in restraint and richness. Minimalist in palette, maximal in meaning. Each piece is intentionally designed for the modern soul who seeks moments of margin, beauty, and depth in a fast-paced world. From the subtle phrase “Cherish the Quiet Moments” to the clean lines of a classic black cap that speaks without shouting, every detail whispers of calm confidence and quiet authority.

After decades of faithful ministry, a retired woman, simply known as "B", found herself in a quieter season of life. The pace had slowed, but her heart still burned for the Lord. One quiet morning, she stumbled upon the back story of The Ivy Hour.

 

Something stirred. She remembered it as being similar to a name she once gave to her personal time with the Lord—The Quiet Hour-- time carved out just to be with Him. No agenda. No checklist. Just abiding. Like John 15:7 says, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you…”

 

She had spent a lifetime helping others grow in Christ, but in that moment, she was reminded how precious it is to simply sit with Him. To return to the vine. To soak in His presence. She designed the The Ivy Hour Abiding Collection—not just for herself, but for anyone longing to reconnect, realign, and find rest in Him. Young or old, busy or still, seasoned believer or seeking soul—there’s room for everyone to abide.

 

She began creating simple, beautiful items to make the time feel special. The black mug was the first item—a daily invitation to slow down, sip something warm, and spend sacred time with Jesus. It’s a quiet nudge. A soul-deep reminder. A gentle beginning to something eternal. Then came the awake mug, bright and bold for those days when she needed more than a quiet nudge to abide.
